A man, small in stature, stalked through the night. The smile he wore was one of confidence, in his eyes hid evil intentions. He was stalking Shadow, or, more accurately, her dreams. Picking and choosing the lovely little horrific pieces he could bend and mold to his own design. His plan, flawless. Laughing, he said, “thank you, I’ll have to give you something for your troubles… If you live that long.”

They were back and no one in the city was safe. The Doctor could feel it, they were taking the city and soon everyone living in its walls. He had to stop them somehow, he couldn’t watch such a lovely, technologically advanced city be torn down before his eyes- not again. But the foe were worthy beings not easily vanquished, that was the worst part

From a jog, he now took off running in no particular direction. His mind was running a million miles a second, he wasn’t focusing nearly as much on where he was going as he should be

“we chase it down and hopefully get transported up there,” the doctor explained as they ran, “and if not, well we’ll find out if this is the dream.” He seemed convinced this was the best course of action, and besides he needed to clear his head. The thing loomed slowly above them, getting closer now

Shadow had no idea what was going on around her. She didn’t know how she got where she was standing. All she knew was that the city seemed darker than before and she felt very scared. Wait, why was she scared? She heard a noise and turned around sharply to see what it was. Her eyes widened from the sight and she quickly turned around, breaking into a run. She could hear them following her, though she was fast she knew they could keep up. It was either find a place to hide, or use the shadows, but at the moment she didn’t feel as if the latter was an option.

She shook her head, her eyes darting  all around her to find a suitable place to hide. It was nearly impossible to find one however, which was odd. She could usually find hiding spots easy, especially in the city. She frantically looked around more, looking everywhere but in front of her.This turned out to be a mistake as she turned the corner and accidentally ran into someone, causing her to fall before she could gain her balance back. “Ow..” she muttered to herself.

“It’s better to hope she’s alive than assume she isn’t,” he replied darkly. “But we can’t focus on that right now. This world is perfect, right? Too perfect, except it’s plagued by a mysterious entity that stalks the sky. In my opinion this might be the dream.”

“Well, that was quick,” the short man appeared out of nowhere, wearing that same mocking smile as he did before. His sudden appearance made the Doctor jump. “I thought you’d opt to wander around more before deciding on one of the worlds, don’t you think? Tell me, what made the other one so real to you?”

The Doctor furrowed his brow before realizing he didn’t remember the danger of the other once. Maybe it had been more ridiculous than this one… they couldn’t make such a hasty decision without that information.

Shadow had barely seen this guy and she was already tired of him. However the mention of the threat in the last world made her brows furrow. What was the threat? She remembered that something was there, but…why couldn’t she remember what? She glanced at The Doctor to see if he had any idea, but saw he was just as lost as she was.

She looked back at the annoying man and gave him “the look”. She had a feeling head the reason she didn’t know. After all, by Shadow fox standards, her brain was fairly young. It shouldn’t be that easy to forget, even in a place like this. Her shadow squirmed slightly, making her look down at it. She knew the shadows were trying to tell her something, but she couldn’t hear them. It was as if she were out of reach of them. That had never happened before…

“Alright, what the hell are you playing at?” Shadow suddenly growled at the man. He was the reason for everything happening here, so in her mind, he was the reason that little girl had been taken. Dream or reality, she didn’t care. A little girl had just been taken and an entire city scared out of their mind! That was more than enough to solidify her snapping suddenly, at least in her head it was.

“Haven’t you figured it out yet?” he asked with a laugh, “one of these worlds is a dream, the other is reality. Decide which one and if you’re right I’ll let you go. If you’re wrong, well, I’ve always wanted pets.” He turned on his heel to the Doctor, “now, tell me, what is it about this world that makes it the dream, hm?”

Frustrated, the Doctor didn’t respond. He looked over at Shadow thoughtfully before he stated, “…I have a plan, and it might just be the stupidest thing I will ever do. Do you trust me?” Pulling back the curtains slightly, he looked out. The stars were back in the sky, twinkling, yet the town was still deserted. Maybe the spaceship makes rounds because the shadow isn’t big enough to cover the entire thing at once

“I’m not a pet,” Shadow growled at the man. She hated being called that because while she is fox in nature in certain ways, she was way more human than any pet. She crossed her arms and looked at the Doctor a moment, partially to keep herself from glaring a hole in the other man.Then when he spoke she raised an eyebrow. Stupidest thing? Trust him? She barely knew him! She glanced at the man who was running the show. However, she trusted the Doctor more than she trusted him. 

“What’s your plan?” She asked, hoping this wouldn’t be a mistake.

He opened the door, peeking out. By then the shadow had passed, he stepped into the street to chase it down. The only way to know if this shadow swallowed people into nonexistence or if it was in fact a teleportation device. He waved for her to follow him so they could get away from the dream lord so he could think. And, although he wouldn’t openly admit it, he was starting to get pissed by that man’s petty insults. He would no doubt follow them and make more little comments.

Luckily the both entire town was empty so they had the freedom to run about. Judging by the stars, the ship was on the other side of town. They could wait until it came back or they could chase it down, either way he was going to jump into the shadows and there was nothing anyone could do about it

“You’ve got to be kidding me.. Okay here I go,” Shadow said and despite her better judgement, ran out after him. She gave a sarcastic wave to the dream lord as she left. She kept up with the Doctor easily. She’d be better at catching that thing if she wasn’t using her powers for her human disguise she’d be on all fours and passing him.

“This is your plan?!” She questioned the Doctor as she ran. It wasn’t the craziest thing she’d done, but it was in the top 20.

“Nope. You have to figure it out on your own,” Erin said with a smile as if this was a game. “Coming Vennessa?” Shadow growled again but followed.

“On a little trip,” Erin said vaguely, opening the door for her. “after you.” There were two other men in trench coats out there to escort them to the car. They didn’t want her running after all.

Aurora stepped away from the men, eyeing them as they stood before her. Preparing herself in case she would have to run.
